The Story
Next time you are pruning your favorite rose bush, transplanting a young tomato plant or even raking the leaves, take a little break for a moment to reflect on the tool you are using and its amazing evolution. More than likely it was created from the restless mind of an overworked gardener who had an idea for a “better mousetrap.”
Each of the implements shown in this design offer an exciting glimpse at the evolution of gardening tools. The art of gardening has changed little over time, whereas the tools we use have evolved for a simple reason: to simplify the task. How many spades, shovels, hoes or pruning shears have you owned? How many different types of sprinklers have you tried? Perhaps, as Agatha Christie once said, invention arises out of idleness and laziness to save oneself trouble. Now, let’s all don our thinking caps to come up with the ultimate weeding machine!
