The Story
Modern fly reels are quite similar in appearance to some of the earliest invented, with all of them working on the basic winch concept. Little has changed in the design. Their function is still to hold the line and give sufficient backing while fishing and to provide a simple brake and winch function when fighting a hard-running fish.
However, the favored material of construction has progressed from brass, Bakelite, gun metal, and aluminum to state-of-the-art graphite. Our Fly Reels design is a tribute to those early pioneers and inventive geniuses including Charles Orvis, Charles Pflueger and many others whose names are synonymous with the colorful history and evolution of fly fishing.
